How are cemented carbide prices calculated?

The price of cemented carbide is usually between 10 and 12 euros per kilo. Since carbide is an alloy, all of its components are traded on the metal exchange. Its price depends on these developments.

How do Schrott24 work out its cemented carbide prices?

Thanks to our large partner network of scrap dealers, we can offer better carbide prices. We use our intelligent tools to dynamically match supply and demand. The recycling of carbide saves on the considerable amount of energy that would arise during primary extraction in mining and in transporting the ores. Recycling can save scarce resources as well as reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions. This makes carbide an often underestimated source of income. On our website you can sell Widia carbide, saw blades, drills and milling cutters, as well as mixed carbide and turnings. To get the best price, it is best to sort the material by type first. Since there is often confusion between carbide and other metals, we have provided an explanatory video on our YouTube channel to help you with the sorting process.

What is cemented carbide and where does it come from?

Cemented carbide is a metallic compound that consists of 80% tungsten and close to 12% cobalt and does not contain any iron. Due to its particular composition, carbide is extremely hard and heat-resistant and is used as a tool for processing other hard materials. Carbide is brittle and very dense. Carbide can be used to cut glass. Due to its hardness and longevity, solid carbide’s uses include saw blades, milling cutters and drills, as well as indexable inserts. This alloy has nothing to do with ordinary steel or iron.
