How are lead prices calculated?

For years, the most important commercial source for the extraction of lead was lead ore. Today, well over half of the world’s demand for lead is met by the recycling of lead scrap. Like all scrap metal, the price of lead is influenced by many different factors. As with all scrap metal, the purer the material is, the better it is for introduction back into the recycling process and the higher the price it will sell for.

How do Schrott24 work out their lead prices?

The price of lead depends primarily on the price of the primary metal on the exchange. We publish the latest lead prices on our website every day. Thanks to our extensive partner network of scrap dealers, we can offer better prices by matching supply with demand. You can sell your scrap lead online and either have it delivered to a partner scrap dealer or have it picked up. You can find more tips on how to get the best price for your scrap on our blog or on our YouTube channel.

What is lead and where does it come from?

Lead is a blue-gray heavy metal that is very malleable. Scratching the surface reveals a dull silver color, which soon reacts chemically with the air and forms a gray layer of oxidation. Lead is dense and is not magnetic. The majority of lead is used to manufacture accumulators, which are a component in batteries.
