How are copper prices calculated?

1 kg of pure copper costs on average between 4 and 6 euros. The actual price, however, depends on the type of copper, which is divided into various categories, such as copper millberry, copper spark plugs, copper berry and copper cable with or without a plug. In addition, the daily fluctuations on the London Metal Exchange have an impact on the copper price. The price for copper is particularly sensitive to the demand on the world market. If more copper is required by the industry for production than is available, the price of copper on the world market can increase rapidly.

How do Schrott24 work out their copper prices?

We can offer such good scrap prices thanks to our large network of scrap dealer partners. With the help of our intelligent tools, we dynamically match the supply and demand of copper in the market. We publish the latest copper prices on our platform. These can still change depending on your location and the selected mode of transport. As with all scrap metal, the purer your copper is, the better it is for being fed back into the recycling process and the higher its price when it is sold. Be absolutely sure to separate and sort the different types of copper before you sell them - only the price of the lowest quality scrap will be charged. You can find some explanatory videos on our blog and our YouTube channel to help you navigate this.

What is copper and where does it come from?

Copper is a reddish heavy metal that is relatively soft and easy to manipulate. It is rustproof and non-magnetic. When exposed to air, copper tarnishes and becomes reddish-brown. Over time, further weathering causes a bluish-green layer of oxidation, or patina, to form on the surface. Copper is mined worldwide, but the largest economically recoverable reserves are currently in Chile and the United States of America. Globally, more than one tenth of copper production is covered by energy-saving recycling - in Germany almost half. Due to its excellent conductivity, copper is found in all kinds of electronic devices and cables. Copper is often used in roof construction because the copper sheets are protected from further corrosion by the patina layer that forms, giving it a very long service life. Demand is growing steadily, so the recycling of copper has become a lucrative process.
